Joanna Smith is the founder and CEO of Daley Smith STEM, a visionary geotechnical engineer, pianist, and leader who expertly blends music, mathematics, and technology to inspire students of all ages. She has been playing the piano since the age of 4, under the guidance of the late Ms. Nemhard, and has developed an exceptional ability to connect music with mathematical concepts.
As a civil and geotechnical engineer, Joanna Smith led key projects like the $1.3 billion Hunts Point Rehabilitation and I-95 expansion. With experience at AECOM and degrees from Johns Hopkins and Morgan State, she created a program to inspire Bronx youth to pursue engineering and excel in STEM.
Joanna Smith, a gifted pianist, has been a dedicated church musician for over a decade, serving as the youngest pianist and praise team leader. Her musical talents have reached international stages, including performances for 4-star General William "Kip" Ward and Robin A. Kemper, the President of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Joanna Smith is a dynamic speaker known for her impactful presentations at graduations, cotillions, and banquets alongside prominent figures like Bronx Councilmen. As a passionate advocate for change and upward mobility, she delivers motivational messages that empower individuals to reach their full potential.
In addition to her passions for music and engineering, Joanna Smith delights in teaching robotics and roller-skating, highlighting her diverse skill set. As a dedicated mentor, she has guided numerous students in STEM disciplines, inspiring one of them to become the first recipient of the Hall Music Scholarship, a true testament to her profound influence.
Fueled by her faith and guided by her favorite verse, Philippians 4:13—"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me"—Joanna Smith inspires others through her work in music and engineering.
